Performance Management VS Performance Appraisal
Performance management is
a continuous, comprehensive and flexible approach to manage teams, organizations,
and individuals, that involves the maximum possible dialogues between the
parties involved
In every organization
there is a need to understand the abilities of the employees to perform and
grow. Performance appraisal acts as a tool to check the development
opportunities for the employees. It is a systematic evaluation of the work
performed by the employees.
To cope with the
challengers in the business environment, companies are practicing new and
effective methods.
In performance appraisal
system, employees are subjected to rating once a year and it was mostly
implemented on top down basis.
The appraisals were
largely discredited because they concentrated mostly on an employee’s errors
and inabilities.
It narrowly focused on
effect on the overall vision or goal of the organization.
To cope with the current
challengers, organizations have shifted their focus to performance management
from performance appraisal.
Performance management is
a far broader term, because it is an integrated approach that aims to build
successful organizations by gaining high performance terms and improving
individual performances. In performance management the top level supervisors
act as a mentors or coaches. It is more flexible and casual method to evaluate
the staff performances.
It can customize for each
individual employees actual work rather than evaluating the criteria of job
description.
Performance management facilitate
real time monitoring and talking corrective actions which helps to better
employee output compare to the conventional performance appraisal system.
Also it reduces the
stress because it frequently take reviews.
